Jack Daniel's American Single Malt is a limited edition version of the brand. The whiskey went through Jack Daniel's traditional 10-step charcoal maturation process, was put into first-fill casks in 2015, matured for around 5 years and then finished in 300-litre Oloroso Sherry casks "to add richness", according to head distiller Chris Fletcher.
Specifically, the maturation process is as follows: the whiskey is distilled from 100 % malted barley, undergoes a 'charcoal melting' process, is matured in American oak casks for approximately 4 years, and is then matured in ex-Sherry Oloroso casks for a further 24 months.
High quality water is required to produce whiskey, which is why, when Jack Daniels established the distillery, it purchased the Cave Spring Hollow water source - a cave and its surroundings that are a rare natural source of crystal clear spring water. The cave's limestone layers naturally provide the water with various minerals that contribute to its unique character.
